The Problem
Pepsi – Pepsi Smash needed to marry Pepsi Smash with Yahoo.com to broadcast concerts via Yahoo.com.


The Process
Sandy James-Mathews, Sr. .Account Manager – WEDR-FM/99Jamz conducted a detailed CNA with the Pepsi, Tracy Locke, team: Melanie Jernigan, and Tracy Daniels; DJ Khaled and Cedric Hollywood, Program Director/99Jamz also joined the meeting together the group brainstormed afterwards to discuss ideas that would make the concert and awesome experience for Pepsi consumers. By the end of the meeting Pepsi Smash was clearly set to become a huge success for the client, Pepsi; Yahoo.com and the station.

The Performances
Pepsi Smash in Miami was to capacity! The weather, the venue and the vibe was just what Pepsi and Yahoo.com wanted. The exclusive on air ticket giveaway was executed without a flaw. The listeners responded and carried the excitement all over the streets of Miami. Pepsi Smash was one of the biggest events of the year. WEDR/99Jamz was represented on stage via banners and DJ Khaled preformed to Pepsi’s expectations. Yahoo.com mentioned throughout the concert and received hits to their website. “This concert is the bomb! Look at the crowd, I never expected this.”
The Plan
Pepsi Smash on Yahoo! Music brings exclusive video content featuring artists, their music, and their lifestyles. This years guest were: Kanye West, John Legend, and Common which made for a natural fit for WEDR/99Jamz urban audience, but WEDR is not the only urban station in Miami vying for the business, so Sandy had to bring out the big guns to position WEDR as the host station! Sandy used long term relationships to gather inside information on the artist and learned that all three artist preferred WEDR/99Jamz when in Miami. She also learned that DJ Khaled was top choice for the artist. DJ Khaled became key to making Pepsi Smash happen with 99Jamz! So he fast became the “star” that Pepsi could speak with and touch to answer the questions that the Pepsi marketing crew would be asking. Such as…What’s hot in Miami? Will the consumer enjoy the venue, Bayfront Park? And naturally, How “hot” is the artist line-up? Just before the conference call was over the Pepsi crew knew that they had chosen the right station, WEDR!
