Cousins Cheryl and Don Mizell discuss the impact of Obama's campaign on the presidential race and how the election is shaping into a litmus test for race in America.

Voters shared who they were supporting and why, ideas about running mates and whether or not they would cross party lines if their candidate was not selected.

  • Florida Presidential Primary Election: This segment of the show highlighted the ballot items, early voting locations, absentee balloting, registration forms and deadlines, acceptable IDs, etc while encouraging voters to get to the polls for the upcoming election scheduled for January 29.

  • Haitian Immigration: This segment was a discussion about the unfairness immigration policies as they relate to Haitians in South Florida and offered suggestions about what listeners could do to affect change.

  • Domestic Violence Prevention: This segment of the show revealed that many women will tell their hairstylist about issues before they will tell their doctors. A special program that teaches hairstylists how to communicate with their clients and spot the signs of domestic violence is making a difference by being a vehicle to provide information and support.

  • H.U.D. Takeover of Miami Dade Housing: This segment sited HUD's inadequacies in other urban cities, highlighted possible ulterior motives of HUDs assistant secretary, examined the problems that led to the takeover of Miami Dade's Housing Department, and introduced the idea of community control and input as an alternative.

  • March for Jobs: : In commemoration of the anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington, local organizations and unions marched on Miami Dade County's administrative headquarters to raise attention to the need for jobs, the housing crisis, apartheid-like treatment of workers on Miami Beach.

  • 123,564 Units of Low Income Housing Needed: The county's 5 year master plan reveals 123,564 units of housing are needed over the next 25 years to avert a housing disaster. Currently there are 40,000 people wait-listed for the county's low income housing units while there are 50,000 condos being built. In an effort to fight gentrification and provide housing for those in need, Take Back the Land is pushing the government and other agencies to get started now.

  • Youth Violence Prevention: This show was a discussion about the continuing murders of youth in our community – 31 children were lost over an 18 month period in Miami Dade County. The show featured guests from the Violence Intervention and Prevention Services and Peace in the Hood who provided insight into the problem and provided information on some of the local programs and activities for youth, as well as support for parents of murdered children.

  • MMAP Threatened by Budget Cuts: A community trust which was set up primarily to address the disparities in the black community is threatened with major decreases in staff as a result of budget cuts and accusations of improper employment practices by its management.

  • Youth Violence Prevention III: This show was a discussion about the recent and senseless murders of youth in our community. It featured guests from the Children's Trust who provided insight into some of the research and various programs around the county that are being funded over the next few years to address this crisis.

  • Preparedness for 2007: This show featured guests from the Red Cross, local hospitals and Emergency Management in a discussion which covered the topics of food & water supplies, first aid kits, special medical needs, shelter while offering insight into how needs are addressed following the hurricane using the new 311 call center in Miami Dade County.

  • Youth Violence Prevention II: This show was a discussion about the prevalence of violence among the youth in our community and offered some solutions from government officials and law enforcement personnel to address the problems including an upcoming anti-violence rally and recently announced gun bounty program.

  • The Water Shortage: This show discussed challenges and possible outcomes of the water shortage affecting Monroe, Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties while offering tips for conservation, providing information about special programs and announcing the new schedule for irrigation. 05/12/07

  • Miami Dade Housing Crisis: This segment was a follow up discussion regarding the housing crisis in Miami Dade which covered the impact of the recent destruction of Umoja Village on its residents and the pending takeover by the federal government of the county's housing department.
  • Segment 2
  • North Miami Mayoral Election: This segment revealed the ongoing controversy between North Miami's recently re-elected Mayor Kevin Burns and its Chief of Police, Gwendolyn Boyd. Chief Boyd contends that she was promised a raise when she acted as City Manager during an interim period, while Mayor Burns contends that he is not obligated to give her the raise since it was not made by the proper authorities in the appropriate manner.

  • Umoja Village – Destroyed Overnight: In a strange turn of events, Umoja Village burned down within days of celebrating its 6 month anniversary. Following its destruction, the residents were not allowed back to rebuild. This show discussed their confrontation with police, the status of its residents and the future of the development.

  • Health Care in Miami Dade: This segment of the show discussed challenges with accessing health care and the high costs associated with services here in Miami Dade County.

  • Umoja Village – Shanty Town for the Homeless: The House of Lies, a local newspaper series, revealed that the Hope VI housing development plan displaced approximately 850 residents while funds which should have been used to build some of their new homes were pocketed by the developers without any accountability by responsible government officials. This show discussed the 6 month anniversary of the shanty town that was set up on government property by concerned citizens in an effort to provide temporary shelter to those made homeless and as a form a protest to the government that neglected them.

    3/17/07 The Firing of Roosevelt Bradley: County Commissioners Betty Ferguson & Barbara Jordan, Bishop Victor Curry - NAACP President and former Miami Dade Transit Director, Roosevelt Bradley speak out about the disrespect felt by the black community and the misrepresentation of various details portrayed in the media.

    3/17/07 African American Achievers: The JM Family Enterprises 2007 Honorees and former honorees discuss their perspectives on current issues relative to areas of knowledge.

    3/10/07 Minority Business in South Florida:Beatrice Louissaint of the Florida Regional Minority Business Council discusses the progress of challenges of small and minority businesses here in South Florida.

    2/10/07 Finding Our People: Former residents of the Scott-Carver Projects and members of L.I.F.T. and the Miami Workers Center combine their efforts in locating many former residents that Miami Dade County had not previously been able find
