 | | The Miami-Dade Juvenile Services Department (JSD) is sponsoring the third in a series of "Anti-Violence Youth 'Rap' Sessions", on Saturday, May 31, 2008, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the Homestead PAL Gym, 600 Southwest 14th Ave, Homestead. This event is part of the ongoing Violence Intervention Project being implemented by the JSD in response to the senseless deaths and random violence affecting our children.
The first two rap sessions, held in March at Carol City High School and Liberty City at the NFL YET Center in April, were praised as much needed gatherings. The importance of talk among youth and adults was obvious by audience participation and the coverage by all media components: radio, television, and print! Our young people have a story worth airing and printing, and they are just getting started!
This third session will provide a forum for youth to talk with each other and with committed adults, about the roots of the violence problem. The goal of all of these sessions and other VIP activities is to engage youth in a growing county wide movement towards anti-violence as a means of conflict resolution. This event, which is free and open to the public, will feature a live remote and music by WEDR/99 JAMZ, food, and give-aways.
We look forward to your continued support of the VIP initiative, which is so vital to the entire Miami-Dade County community.
Sponsored by: Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners
