What is Domestic Violence?
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE is violence committed by one family member
or household member against another.
In fact abuse or battering is a system of behaviors used by one person to control another person's actions and feelings. These behaviors or tactics by the abuser are planned actions that are executed in order to control the victim. It is all about control, not loss of control on the part of the abuser, just control over a weaker partner.

Abuse comes in many forms - physical, sexual, emotional, financial, and psychological. Physical and Sexual abuse are the foundation behind the tactics used for all abuse. If someone fears for theri physical safety or for their life then they can be controlled. Once a victim of violence, they are easily controlled by threats, isoloation or humiliation.

1 in 3 Women will be a victim of domestic violence at least once in their lifetime
Every 9 seconds a woman is battered
A woman is murdered by her husband or boyfriend every 6 hours
40% of the women who die every year, die as a result of domestic violence incidents
In 80% of domestic violence cases, children witness the physical abuse
Children growing up in these families are 4 times more likely to become juvenile delinquents than children who grow up in healthy environments
The health-related costs of rape, physical assault, stalking, and homicide by intimate partners exceed $5.8 billion each year
It is estimated that 25% of workplace problems such as absenteeism, lower productivity, turnover, and excessive use of medical benefits are due to family violence
