5 inmates escape from Louisiana jail

MARKSVILLE, La. — Authorities in Louisiana are searching for five inmates who escaped from a Marksville jail earlier this week.

According to KALB and WBRZ, the Ayoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office said Dakeylon Berry, 19, of Hessmer; Kyle Cavalier, 19, of Bunkie; William Johnson, 27, of Marksville; Rondrakus Taylor, 19, of Mansura; and Davantae Williams, 20, of Bunkie, escaped from the Marksville DC-1 Jail shortly after 7:30 p.m. Monday. Authorities believe they pulled a bathroom sink from the wall to escape the building, then left the property through a hole in a fence outside, the news outlets reported.

Deputies described Berry as a Black man with black hair who stands 5 feet, 10 inches tall. He faces charges of home invasion, simple assault and aggravated battery, according to KALB.

Cavalier, a white man with brown hair, stands about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and faces an aggravated arson charge, authorities said.

Johnson, a Black man with black hair, is 5-foot-9 and faces several charges, including simple assault and battery, domestic abuse and home invasion, KALB reported.

Taylor, a Black man with black hair, stands 5 feet, 6 inches tall and faces illegal weapons use, aggravated assault and armed robbery charges, deputies said.

Williams, a Black man with black hair, is also 5 feet, 6 inches tall and was charged with second-degree battery, according to KALB.

Anyone with information about the inmates’ whereabouts should call the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-253-4000.
